Thanks for the late start, Marriott

No wake-up call in Charlotte

I called down for a 5:30 a.m. wake-up call that never came, so time is shorter than I had planned. This happens more times than I care to recount, leading me to back up the wake-up call by setting the alarm clock in the room, but this one was too hard to figure out. I’m at the Residence Inn in Charlotte, NC, by the way. I am a fan of the automated wake-up call systems. Those computers are more reliable than front-desk personnel.

  1. I don’t trust any of it - calls, clocks, whatever. A little travel alarm is a great investment, and my phone’s alarm feature is a good bet too…

  2. Thanks, John. Y’know, I carry one of those travel alarms AND I have the one on my cell phone and I never think to use them because I have the wake-up service. I checked into a Crowne Plaza in Chicago tonight and one of the things I was told on check-in is that the wake-up call is guaranteed; if they don’t deliver, I get a free night’s stay. It’s shameful that the industry has to resort to such offers for a service that should work flawlessly every time…and did, once upon a time.
