Second Life business mag to launch
While skepticism continues to be aimed at Second Life as a channel communicators should take seriously, one company thinks it’s a serious enough business venue that it’s launching a magazine dedicated to business in Second Life.
C.C. Chapman alerted me to the impending publication of “SL Business: The Premium Virtual Branding Magazine.” The magazine, which will be published as a PDF, currently offers a media kit on its site, which opens with this question: “Have you been looking for centralized, up-to-date Second Life business info and spent forever asking complete strangers ‘How to’ and ‘Where can I’ type questions?”
Eleven content categories are planned, ranging from news and success stories to legal issues and investing information. The publication is also planning contests. In addition to the monthly magazine, the publishers are also planning weekly updates. Advertising rates top out at US $2,950 in Linden dollars for a full-page ad—about $10 US—suggesting some confidence that the magazine will reach a wide readership.
I couldn’t find much information on the publisher, Dalian Hansen, other than to note that he (I think it’s a “he”) is a very active SL participant. The first issue is due August 1. For those reluctant to commit the time required to figure out Second Life through active participation, this magazine and the Second Life Podcast may be enough to stay up to speed.
