A healthy diet of spam?

This one defies belief. A study conducted by the University of Alberta has concluded that unsolicited marketing email—spam—can be good for you. According to a report on the study at LiveScience.com, people who received spam promoting healthy lifestyles improved their body mass index while those who didn’t receive the spam did not.

According to researcher Ron Plotnikoff, “"We need to improve the population’s health. Also we need more creative ways to reach the ‘hard to reach’ groups.”

Sure, but by clogging in-boxes with unwanted messages and further deteriorating public trust in email? Why not just telemarket the messages? Sheesh.

  1. I didn’t read the report, but that sure is a different way of looking at spam. I once heard that deleting email burns a few calories. Another way I could see spam being good for you is if you are deleting millions a day :] Bill Gates is fit isin’t he?

  2. Thanks to the kindness of spammers, I no longer suffer from sexual dysfunction, obesity or cigarette cravings. Now that I’m healthy, I’m focusing on getting my hands that that million dollars I have coming my way from Nigeria.
