Geeking out in Toronto
Twenty-two marketers and communicators showed up at Big Daddy’s in Toronto for the geek dinner last night, in advance of my talk today for the Association of Internet Marketing and Sales. Among them, above (clockwise from top left): Ed Lee, David Jones, Michael Seaton and Mitch Joel. It was like a reunion with a bunch of people I’d never met and renewed my appreciation for social media.

I passed my digital recorder around the table so everybody could contribute their thoughts about social media. I’m not yet sure whether I’ll play excerpts on tomorrow’s or Monday’s For Immediate Release or just make the file available here, but you’ll be able to hear from these 22 communicators one way or another at some point.
Hey Shel,
It was great to almost meet you last night - hopefully next time around we can have a slightly more substantial chat.
EdPosted by Ed Lee on 09/20 at 06:04 AMThat looks like the hot new boy band, Blog This Pod That!
Great seeing you again Shel (and the for the first time in person
Safe travels!

It was great to meet you last night and hang out. Your speech this afternoon was excellent, the crowd at AIMS was buzzing.Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Have fun in Chicago.
Michael
Posted by Michael Seaton on 09/20 at 04:00 PMShel, great meeting you and an excellent session today. I’m quite interested in what insights (or ramblings as is most likely in my case) us fine folk had on what social media means to us!
I echo Ed in terms of a longer chat & Michael in terms of looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Cheers,
TameraPosted by Tamera Kremer on 09/20 at 06:39 PMShel, it was great meeting you and your session was inspiring. It was one of the best AIMS events I’ve attended in a long time. Like Tamera, I too am curious to hear what social media means to our group. My days of being a social media lurker are numbered. Stay tuned.
Posted by Eden Spodek on 09/21 at 05:35 AMThanks Shel - was great meeting you and your session went over very well. I’ve received a lot of very positive response to the event.
Passing your digital recorder around was fun. No idea what the original question was by the time it got to our end of the table but everyone had lots to say.
Posted by Kathryn Lagden on 09/21 at 10:30 AMIt really doesn’t matter what the original question was—kind of like the old kid’s game of telephone. It’s interesting to hear what comes out at the end!
Posted by Shel on 09/21 at 12:10 PMAhh, another reminder of all the great folks in Toronto that I have to meet face-to-face (though because of the power of social media, I feel like I know most of them already).
Maybe that will happen at the recently announced PodCamp Toronto (http://podonomics.com/podcamp-toronto-its-coming/), tentative scheduled for next Februrary. I’ll be sure to bundle up!
