Want to build buzz? Hire a celebrity
While most of the attention the last couple days has been on Robert Scoble leaving Microsoft to join PodTech, I was interested in the impact the announcement had on PodTech itself, not to mention the visibility podcasting in general got from the move. As the following Alexa chart shows, PodTech’s reach went from under 100,000 per day to about 700,000 on the announcement that they had hired Scoble away from Microsoft. Page load and rank statistics were consistent with the numbers for reach.

While those numbers certainly will settle back down, general awareness of PodTech has soared, and it couldn’t have hurt awareness of podcasting, either. In fact, Scoble’s affiliation with a podcasting startup as most likely lent legitimacy to the medium as some figure Scoble can do for podcasting what he’s done for blogs.
